Hosted the Society for Information Display (SID)’s 1st networking event of the year for the industry on 10th Jan at India Habitat Centre.  Happy to report a near-full hall, despite a cold winter morning, with participations from a spectrum of display supply-chain companies (Rockwell, SMC, Horiba, AMAT, Corning); Tech Providers ( Sharp, Grantwood, National Centre for Flexible Electronics); Mobile/ IT companies; TV Integrators…

  • Government Policies presented by Mr Prashant Kumar, Director MEITY
    • Strong focus on enabling ecosystem, Significant growth achieved in last 5 years with $115 B of electronics manufacturing- aggressive targets of $500 B ( report unveiling on 15th Jan). Next ISM policies to focus on enabling supply-chain and display value system, potentially, a key part of it
    • States ( Gurjeet of Chattisgarh) will continue to deliver aggressive, customized packages to attract industry
  • Innovations
    • NC FLexE , Dr Sudheer and Madhu, shared their innovation journey for flexible OLEDs for niche applications in signage, automotive (2 wheeler panels)
    • Prasad Madhavabothla , Group Head, India Display team at Applied Materials presented a perspective on display equipment driving different applications and functionalities in the display nanotech system
  • Insights
    • Rajesh Sharma, Executive Director, ICEA built on the need of going from initial wins in electronics EMS to a systematic enablement of the upstream supply-chains in electronics to build a sustainable future for India’s electronics industry
    • Dr Ashwini presented on the global industry trends shaping the display industry with LCD displays holding on with innovations from QLED and related interventions; Rise of (AM) OLED displays with smart phones; interventions & innovations in…; The emerging automotive display ecosystem; the Micro LED in AR/VR markets and the niche electrophoretic displays and 3D/on/2D displays. Core remains the uncovering of latent end use applications and market adoption of the tech innovations.
  • Connections
    • Best part was the group interaction as one heard from Mr Mahindra Taneja, EKA & Sunil-Akash from Aero Digital; Sujai , Sindhu, Dr Sudarshan from Sharp and Anjali/Amitava from Grantwood.Team Horiba (Priyadarshani & Praveen) interacted with the other ecosystem partners and picked links with EMS leaders and tech providers.
    • Mobile partners and IT partners linked in

Opportunities to refresh India’s display sector were discussed. Display Week 2025 in May 13-16 would be a key focus.  Look forward to a more intense discussion on enabling the sector on February 6th – the next get-together date. Clearly, no substitute to networking – beyond screens.
