Bahadur has no money, no parents – just a life-long dedicated service to an 85 year old bed-ridden, retired widow. And he had cataract that he did not reveal for last several months -till the fact that he could not see was suddenly visible to those around him. The local doctor treated him for his eye-infection – but for his cataract the local quotes were sky-high at 20,000/- per eye plus related costs. I was not convinced about the local facilities either – and I have been a strong believer in Dr Shroff’s Charitable eye hospital!. We got his eye operated there- this is his photograph after the eye operation and you can see me standing with MMe Kiran Mehta, head of donor department at Dr Shroff’s. It was sweet of her to come down to check on Bahadur – but then that is Dr Shroff’s culture…of self-less service with a smile and a dedication unparalleled. Sanobar ( she replaced Sandhya in the donor department) has been exceptional in this case as she coordinated all the admin and help to us. My compliments to MMe Kiran for recruiting and cultivating such talent and maintaining the highest standards of service.
I am proud to be a regular donor to Dr Shroffs – and happy to record Bahadur as a successful intervention. Next month – we will take him thru the operation for the 2nd eye…
